Room Divider Options that Make It Great to Be at Home

Room dividers are no longer just pieces of furniture.  They can provide functions, serve as artwork, and change the entire essence of your abode.  It is all up to you.  When you begin to shop for a modern room separator, you must make some decisions about what you really want from your divider.  Perhaps you are on a quest for a privacy screen for the bedroom you share with a roommate; you might be looking to hide a corner full of clutter, or set aside a home office or studio.   Do you want complete privacy, or do you want to add a focal point in your great room?  There are many room divider options to consider.

Taking privacy a step further, acoustic dividers are available in fashionable ones and industrial models.  In the 21st century, when TV, movies, music, and video games are all offered surround sound, a fresh acoustic room divider will absorb much of the sound coming from your entertainment center area so that you can talk on the phone read a book, even while your children are saving (or destroying) a virtual world with their friends.  The Buzziscreens at Tecnospace are attractive and come in various colors. The panels zip together, so it is easy to attach additional panels as needed.

This is especially helpful when there is a musician in the digs.  Carve out some studio space for rehearsing and recording by blocking it off with acoustic dividers that will mute the sound on the other side of the walls.  It will also be helpful to the musician because it will absorb the bass and guitar reverberations and minimize feedback.  This will allow the musician to hear a truer rendition of his own music, and help protect his ears.

If you are concerned more with décor than sound, consider turning your downtown flat or suburban Colonial into a rustic cabin in the woods with a rustic modern room separator.   Placing a knotty pine free standing privacy screen with laser cut pine tree accents, or an oak partitionroom separator with rubbed stain for a weathered effect, in a strategic position in your family room or den will create an instant woodsy feel.  Forget the suburban scene outside your door and enjoy your mountain cabin.

Some screens, like the contemporary separator at trendsetter.com, are not meant for any purpose except décor and, perhaps, setting a boundary.  A mountain scene with a bear, a moose, a deer, and an elk graces this piece, but there is much open space.  Therefore this screen will provide a physical barrier of sorts, but will not provide privacy.  This and other rustic dividers can be used as headboards or wall art as easily as furniture.

These are primarily stand alone screens that can be folded for storage when not in use.  However, rustic and soundproof dividers can be bought that slide or roll as well. They will come with hardware to install tracks on the ceiling and floor, on which the dividers move back and forth.  Acoustic dividers in particular can be custom ordered to fit commercial offices.
